Frequently asked questions

Any device you install Sery on — your laptop, desktop, NAS, home server, office PC. Each install counts as one machine in your workspace. Both Free and Plus allow unlimited machines you own; the paid tier is for unlimited Sery-hosted AI and for sharing your workspace with up to 5 other people.
No. Raw files never leave your devices. AI lives in the cloud workspace — only your question and the result rows travel through Sery's servers (plus a small heuristically-redacted sample to ground the AI's answer). Sery Link's tunnel routes SQL execution back to the right machine; full files never cross the network.
Not in the desktop app anymore — Sery Link's local AI surface was removed in v0.6 because the cloud agent (with curated recipes + cross-machine query routing) was a meaningfully better experience. If you want a 'bring your own LLM' surface that talks to your local files, run the MCP server and point Claude Desktop / Cursor / Warp / Continue at it. No Sery account or LLM cost goes through our servers in that path.
Create a workspace key at app.sery.ai (Settings → Workspace Keys). Install Sery on the new machine, click Connect in the status bar, and paste the key. The same key works on as many machines as you own.
Yes — Plus includes up to 5 invited machines on your bill. Share your workspace key with a colleague, a student, or a client; their machine connects under your subscription. All AI queries hit your unlimited Plus quota. If you need more than 5 invitees, contact us.
Yes, on the Plus plan. Generate an API key at app.sery.ai → Settings → API Keys, paste it into your client's MCP config pointing at https://mcp.sery.ai/sse, and your LLM gets nine tools to list / search / sample / SQL-query your workspace. Files stay on the machines that own them — only result rows travel back. Setup walkthrough is in the MCP runbook.
Not yet. Sery is focused on individuals in v1 — team pricing (SSO, audit logs, role-based access) comes once enough small firms ask for it. The 5-invited-machines feature on Plus covers most informal team use. If you need something specific for your org, please contact us.
You drop back to Free, which still includes 50 Sery-hosted queries per month. Sery Link stays fully functional as a local file manager — column-aware search, inline data preview, format convert, remote sources, unlimited machines. Upgrade back to Plus any time.

Yes. Cancel from your account settings — your plan stays active until the end of the billing period, then drops back to Free. No retention tricks, no refund gymnastics.
